This novel is a modern-day Lord of Flies, but I like that it's coed. If you have a teenager or an advanced pre-teen reader in your life, this might be a good summer book for them. I can't wait for the sequel.

Gone was a gripping tale of power, decisions, and intrigue. After everyone over the age of 13 vanishes in the blink of an eye, kids are the only ones left to take charge of their world. This book brings up valuable ideas in the importance of running a world: What is most important? Who should be the leader? What to do with all the young children who cannot take care of themselves? Kids take charge of everything: government, caring for young children, putting out fires, and running a restaurant….but not everything is perfect. Some of the kids have strange powers, and not all of them know how to use them wisely or for good. This story was transfixing, though did drag at times and left out vital explanations to the town’s situation. I was disappointed that it did not have a concrete ending, but instead hints at a possible sequel. After 558 pages, a conclusion really should have been reached. Still, I did enjoy the creativity of the plot and the variety of characters and situations.

And the next minute he was gone.” This first line from the Young Adult novel by Michael Grant starts you off on a roller coaster ride that will leave your stomach at the beginning, not retrieving it until the final period. How would you react if everyone over the age of 13 had disappeared? A few of those who are still here, have secrets they are keeping. The characters in this novel are asked to make some hard decisions few adults are capable to make. Many handle the adversities put before them, struggling to keep their humanity and yet stay alive also. Many just bully their way through, not caring. I was often moved by the struggles these kids went through. Yes, there are a few plot holes, though most bases were covered. Overall, this book is a great ride. I really enjoyed it. I along with everyone else will be looking forward to the sequel, as the ending definitely leaves the way open for one.

The author of this outrageous story, Michael Grant, keeps the reader glued to the pages. He makes the novel an amazing read and keeps the reader wanting more. The suspense that he inflicts in some of the scenes is so real and some of the results can really make your eyes bulge. His page to page description is superb and makes the story very vivid. He makes the characters come to life and makes them extremely easy to connect with. I would most definitely recommend this novel.

Wow, amazing, awesome, none of these words can really grasp how great this book was. The paranormal and streak of romance and terror mix in this book and create an excellent read. It’s intense and you just can’t put it down. This page-turner is a must-read. I have to say that I will be anxiously waiting for the next volume, which I can guess well enough that there will be, considering the way it ended. I think that if you enjoy paranormal, somewhat scary, and heroic books that this would be just the book for you. I loved it and I am quite sure if you read it, you will as well. All in all it was an extremely good book.

I really enjoyed Gone by Michael Grant. From page one it had me hooked. Anyone who likes action will love this story. Every page turn brings about a new twist that has the reader wanting more. The characters seemed real enough for me, although in some of the situations, I had to remind myself that they were all under fourteen! I liked Little Pete’s character. Although we don’t see everything he can do, I see him doing some great things in possible future books. The story in Gone has a complete beginning, middle, and end, but I warn you now—it’s open ended. You’ll want more. Overall, I’d recommend Gone to anyone who enjoys a fun sci-fi end of the world as we know it story. It’s a fun story that really makes you think—what would you do if your world were turned upside down like Sam’s?

This book keeps you interested until the end. You know right away that it will come down to a fight between Sam and Caine, but there are many surprises before you get there. This book made me appreciate more what adults, especially my parents, do to keep us civilized. It is mostly a sci-fi book, but it has characteristics of other genres mixed in with it. The fact that Gone is a very long book should not discourage anyone from reading it. It is a quicker read than I expected, and the story is worth the time you put into it.

This is my first experience with Michael Grant, and he totally blew me away. There are so many twists and turns in the plot that you won’t be able to put this book down until it’s well, gone. But don’t fret; this is only the beginning of a six-part series. The characters are well developed. You not only get to experience Sam’s part of the story but the views of many other characters. There is action, suspense, romance, and fantasy all rolled into one. Gone is a great beginning to what I can only hope will be a thrilling series!

Gone by Michael Grant is a thrilling suspenseful novel that keeps the reader turning the pages. The story begins with all the people 14 and up suddenly disappearing everyone wracked with fear goes out of control when a strange powerful kid Caine comes as a Savoir. Sam our hero is not so sure. Meanwhile some kids have strange powers, animals are mutating and there is a huge barrier surrounding them. The reader wonders will they survive? Will the grownups come back? Are these kids crazy? What the heck is going to happen? And through all the suspense and drama you find a little humor, romance, good vs. evil, and a very remarkable read.

Gone by Michael Grant is a suspenseful page-turner. I couldn’t put the book down, and ended up reading 200 pages a night. I would give it five out of five stars. I loved the ending because it left you sort of suspended, but yet you can infer what happened. I would and will recommend this book to my friends, and family. I can’t wait to hear about more books by this author.
