Q. What is a podcast?
A. A podcast is a downloadable audio file, usually in MP3 format, that you can download to your computer.
Q. Why not just call them MP3s then?
A. What makes podcasts unique is that they're posted in such a way that users with special software (iTunes and iPodder) can subscribe to them and receive them automatically.
Q. What is RSS?
A. RSS (Rich Site Summary or “Really Simple Syndication”) is a method of subscribing to news that interests you. Your subscription automatically delivers the latest news to your computer. When you connect to the internet, your RSS reader collects all your headlines into one place for you so you don’t have to go searching all over the web for them.
Q. How can I subscribe so that I automatically receive each episode?
A. You'll need software that supports podcasts. iTunes and iPodder are two of the more popular podcast-ready clients. All you need to do then is feed this RSS XML link into the appropriate place in your software, and your subscription is ready.
Q. Do I need an iPod to listen?
A. No! All you need is a computer with software to play mp3 files.
